Misty Morning by slickwilly182 Misty Morning by slickwilly182
a shot i really wanted to get up lol.
3 horizontal image photo stacked on top of each other.
wanted to include as much sky and ice as i could, my only regret is that i think i should have shifted to the right a touch.
either way i love the colors and this is just a really cool place.

now is this a landscape...or waterscape lol

I usually don't mind the cold weather, but I have a feeling that temperature may be too cold haha. And you're welcome! :D

What is the coldest you have ever been in? (in Celsius)

The coldest was probably -18. Of course that could have also been due to wind chill as well. I'm sure when your photo was taken it was much much colder.

It wasn't too much colder, maybe -22C
But I have been in -40C before, and that's without the windchill :)
The coldest I have been in with windchill is -53C haha.

-22 doesn't sound too bad, but -40? Were you in the arctic or antarctic?

Question: When was this shot taken? Recently? Are there places where the water is this frozen already?? I live in Alaska, and our water is still water.....at least for right now.

Lovely shot, BTW. I love it!

This was taken in January of last year (2010)
And I think the lakes and rivers have started to freeze over now, I have not had the chance to get out there yet this year.

Glad you like it, thanks! :)

Amazing shot! I love how the shapes of the clouds mirror the distant mountain range. Very 'mystical' shot! Well done :)

This is gorgeous.
If I may suggest some place, though there is no mountains, up by Fedora, near Legal, AB, down that road a while is a campground, Half Moon Lake Campground - in the winter, the lake freezes. I had the pleasure of going there this Spring when the lake was cracking, it was like thunder, really - anyway I digress - there were some EXCELLENT cracks in that lake, and the setting from the dock allowed for sunrise and sunset pictures. Just a thought! :)

It's north east of Legal on Range Road 235, Township Road 590. The access to the lake and day use area is on the north end on Twp 590.

Its a long narrow lake kinda in the shape of a crescent moon running east to west. If I remember right there are 3 docks all kind of close together they're probably about 40 feet long and narrow. It doesn't seem to be on any many maps and an internet search only seems to bring up the Lake of the same name in Sherwood Park. We just kinda stumbled on one morning.

There seems to be a $5 fee in place to access the day use area and there's not really any access to any other part of the lake except from there, the rest is private residences. We lucked out when we went in the spring and someone had left the gates open. Next time I went it was locked up tight. It should be open now for the season though.

Let me look up that information for you *puts you on hold while she goes off in search of it*
Do do do...
Well, this is ridiculous. I see that there are 2 half moon lakes in the general area, unfortunately only one has any kind of information on it, and it's the wrong one.
The dock is long and narrow, somewhat rickety, but fairly stable. The lake is quite large, you have access to both sunrise and sunset - I have a picture from the day I went there this Spring (keep in mind, I am not a nature photographer, bear with the horrible quality!) that shows the dock, I went out on another area to get this -

Halfmoon Lake Sunrise

And this one is my friends rendition of the same shot taken with his camera -

And there is also - [link] which shows a close up of the dock.

If you can wait until this evening, I can ask the person who took the second shot there - he can give me more detailed directions as he knows the backroads far better than I. I will question him and give you some full directions then. I think that the OTHER end of this lake area is in Sherwood Park, but the campground I went to was less populated, open, etc - would suit you much better than a heavily cramped space with a lot of screaming children. There's also a nature sanctuary there :)
